Wikipedia:Bots/Noticeboard
Here we coordinate and discuss Wikipedia issues related to bots and other programs interacting with the MediaWiki software. Bot operators are the main users of this noticeboard, but even if you are not one, your comments will be welcome. Just make sure you are aware about our bot policy and know where to post your issue.
Do not post here if you came to
- discuss non-urgent bot issues, bugs and suggestions for improvement. Do that at the bot operator's talk page
- discuss urgent/major bot issues. Do that according to instructions at WP:BOTISSUE
- discuss general questions about the MediaWiki software and syntax. We have the village pump's technical section for that
- request approval for your new bot. Here is where you should do it
- request new functionality for bots. Share your ideas at the dedicated page

MathBot
Hello, Bot experts,
MathBot doesn't seem to be operating and the bot operator Oleg Alexandrov hasn't been active for a few months now. The bot is primarily active managing AFD pages and, for example, it didn't create the AFD log for tomorrow, Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Log/2025 April 27. I've dropped an email to the Oleg but I also thought I'd post a note here in case there are any bot pros who could check on things so that the AFD process can continue to operate smoothly. Thanks. - Just to update this: Oleg has left a message here: Wikipedia talk:Articles for deletion#Help maintaining the bot that indexes old articles, but it seems to indicate it's not his or a Mathbot problem. Regards, Goldsztajn (talk) 01:36, 27 April 2025 (UTC)
- FWIW - we clearly have a really big bus factor problem with this. Regards, Goldsztajn (talk) 01:37, 27 April 2025 (UTC)
- Huh, I thought AnomieBOT did logs, must just be TFD... looks like the bot's code is public so if someone wants to take it over it should be fairly easy to do so (at least from that perspective). Primefac (talk) 09:27, 27 April 2025 (UTC)
- If it's not possible, WP:AALERTS provides essentially the same functionality with Wikipedia:WikiProject Mathematics/Article alerts/Archive 1, /Archive 2, Archive 3, etc... Headbomb {t · c · p · b} 10:24, 27 April 2025 (UTC)
- I can take over, however it will be done only at the end of the coming week. – robertsky (talk) 14:03, 27 April 2025 (UTC)
- Hmmm... pinging @DreamRimmer as well as they are listed on the bot's toolforge page. – robertsky (talk) 14:07, 27 April 2025 (UTC)
- @Anomie: feels like a natural ping. Izno (talk) 15:34, 27 April 2025 (UTC)

- Just a side note, the original bot uses cgi scripting. the logic can be seen on github here —usernamekiran (talk) 17:41, 27 April 2025 (UTC)
